The poem may be translated as:
Renowned for your talent for thirty years,
Your guests are still freezing with no cushions on their chairs
Luckily you can still depend on Director Su,
Who often spares you some money for a drink
Inscribed by Jibao, two days after the summer solstice in the Jiachen year, probably corresponding to 1664.
The two seals read: Zhai; Jibao
This poem was composed by the great Tang poet Du Fu (712-770) for his friend Zhen Qian (705-764), who was a Court Erudite at the time, renowned for his talent in historical writings, but at the same time extremely poor due to his incorruptability. The Director Su mentioned in the poem is Su Yuanming, who was the Director of Studies in the National College, Guozijian at the time, and often helped Zhen with his financial situation. Du Fu wrote this poem to praise them both in a mocking and at the same time endearing way.
