A pair of German silver sauce-tureens, covers and stands
Mark of Gottlob Ludwig Howaldt, Berlin, 1821-1841, also with the mark of Johann Georg Humbert, presumably as retailer
Each two-handled oval, on detachable oval stand, resting on four paw feet with foliage terminals, with water-leaf, and raised pierced anthemion foliage gallery, the centre with beaded band, the sauce-tureen on spreading oval foot with palm-leaf border, the waisted stem with gadrooned knop, the scroll and foliage double handles terminating in applied flowerheads and overlapping scales, with similar pierced anthemion border, the raised cover with acanthus bud finial rising from foliage calyx, the side of one engraved with FW cypher with Royal Prussian crown above, presumably for Prince Friedrich Wilhelm, later King Friedrich Wilhelm IV, also with initials CK, marked on bases and on foot of sauce-tureens, also engraved beneath stands with weights
