A pair of George IV bronze and gilt-bronze candlesticks
Circa 1825, retailed by B. Davy
Each on spreading circular base with seven plinth feet with ogee canopies and pinnacle above, the stems applied with overlapping sleeves chased with gothic quatrefoiled tracery windows with crocketted canopies above, the upper stems gilt and with tasselled circular drip-pans, unmarked, the bases with trade labels

Lot Essay

The vigorous detailing of these candlesticks reflects the romantic French gothic fashion popularised by Jacob Petit's, Collection de dessins d'Ornement, issued in Paris in the late 1820s. A similar pair of candlesticks are exhibited in the Treasury at Burg Hohenzollern.
