A George IV silver inkstand
Mark of Joseph Angell, London, 1825
Shaped oval and on four shell and acanthus foliage feet, with two similar bracket handles, fitted with three palmette and foliage bottle-holders and two silver-mounted fluted cut-glass inkpots, with central cylindrical stamp-box with taperstick cover, with gadrooned shell and foliate scroll borders, the stand engraved with a coat of arms, crest and presentation inscription, the stamp-box with a crest, marked on stand, bottle-mounts, covers and stamp-box, the taperstick unmarked

The arms are those of Cottrell impaling Strickland for Clement Cottrell-Dormer Esq., of Rousham House (1801-1874), and his wife Frances-Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Walter Strickland Esq., of Cokethorpe Park, co. Oxford and Flamborough, co. York, whom he married in 1826.
The inscription reads Presented to Frances Elizabeth Cottrell Dormer ON HER MARRIAGE May 11th 1826 BY HER Aunt Elizabeth Way
