A George I silver counter-case
Mark of Anthony Nelme, London, circa 1700, maker's mark only
Plain cylindrical and with moulded borders, the detachable cover later engraved with a coat-of-arms within rococo cartouche, containing forty-four Hanoverian 1/3 Taler pieces, ten 1700 and thirty-four 1702, the case marked on base

The arms are those of Cottrell with Sherborne in pretence for Sir Clement Cottrell Kt. (d. 1758) Master of Ceremonies, and his wife, only daughter and heiress of D. Sherborne Esq. On inheriting the Rousham estate from his cousin General Dormer on the latter's death in 1741 he took the addition surname of Dormer.
