by Charles-Alexandre Bouillerot (fl. 1769 - 1792), marked, Paris, 1776/1777, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache 1774-1780, later struck with two French provincial post-1838 warranty marks for gold
Slightly tapering étui-à-cire of oval section, both sides of cover and base with rectangular panels with concave corners of peaked guilloché simulating reptile's skin centred by circular reserves chased in four-colour gold with trophies of music and love on a frosted ground framed by fluted borders, divided by vertical sablé gold bands embellished with husks and flowerheads, the horizontal borders stamped with stylized acanthus on a matted ground, the slightly domed polished gold cover centred by a foliate rosette in an ovolo, the polished matrix engraved with a coat-of-arms with a count's coronet above
