Date code for 1892, printed crowned mark in puce, shape 1295, impressed b11
In the Italian Renaissance style, the boat-shaped bowl with caryatid handles issuing leaves terminating in mythical bird's heads, decorated in raised paste gilding with vignettes of a goddess in a shell chariot drawn by stylised dolphins, a galleon and two similar vignettes of stylised dolphins among waves, below panels moulded in high-relief with scrolling foliage with dragon terminals, the upper surface moulded and pierced with similar panels with stylised dolphin terminals, the cover with a cupid finial above pierced and moulded panels of urns among stylised scrolling foliage and flower-heads within a moulded fretted border, the stem with a swelling gadrooned knop applied with four leaf-moulded scrolls below putto heads, the lower baluster section moulded with paterae below scrolls on a rope-twist band, the tapering foot moulded and pierced with masks of sea gods between stylised dolphins, the socle base moulded with a band of stiff leaves, enriched overall in ivory and coral tones and gilding (the wings of the finial restored, some chipping and old restoration to the leaf terminal below the centre backs of the handle, some chipping and reatoration to some of the leaf terminals on the handles and chipping around the lower rim of the bowl and the top of the stem, some light rubbing to the gilt rim of the bowl and the rim of the bowl and flange of the cover)
