A IRISH PRESENTATION CAVALRY OFFICER'S SABRE

With curved hollow-ground blade etched over half its length on both sides with urns and foliage, one face with the royal arms and a cavalry officer, and the other with crowned 'GR' cypher, the seated figure of Britannia, and a dated warranty mark, gilt-brass stirrup hilt with cast and chased horse-head pommel, the guard in the form of a serpent, reeded wire-bound ivory grip, and original brass scabbard with two suspension-rings, engraved on one side with an Irish harp, 'GR' cypher, and the presentation inscription 'The gift of the Kenry Cavalry to Capt.n Waller 1799' within a crowned martial trophy, and on the other side with the maker's signature: in a wooden display case together with a framed newspaper clipping relating to the sword's presentation, and a modern white-metal officer's gorget (the sword and scabbard refurbished and with some wear)
