A late Victorian brass-bound mahogany two-day marine chronometer, circa 1900
The silvered engraved dial signed DOBBIE McINNES LTD GLASGOW GREENOCK SOUTH SHIELDS MAKERS TO THE ADMIRALTY, Roman hour numerals, gold spade hands, subsidiary seconds with serial number 5/4300 and up-and-down dial with blued steel hands, the movement with spotted plates, Earnshaw escapement with cut bimetallic balance with cylindrical heat compensation weights, blued steel helical balance spring, spring foot detent with jewelled locking stone, brass bowl numbered 3030, three-tier mahogany brass bound box, top lid with part of veneer lacking and signature shield now replaced with later mahogany infill, vacant bone rectangular plaque to the second tier, flush-fitting brass handles to the sides -- 96 mm. dial diam., 178 mm. square the box
