Each on circular fluted feet with band of stiff leaves, the lower body embossed with fluting and foliage and applied above with scrolling vines and bunches of grapes and foliate egg-and-dart borders, two large entwined tendril handles, the covers with slightly raised centres supporting detachable oak foliate handles, plated liners to the soup tureens, the bodies and covers engraved twice with contemporary crests and mottos, fully marked

Lot Essay

The crest and motto are those of Mostyn, probably for Sir Edward Mostyn, 7th Baronet born 1785, who married secondly, 2 August 1826, his cousin Constantia, daughter of Henry Slaughter of Furze Hall, Essex, by his wife Mary Frances, widow of the last Viscount Montagu.
Sir Edward was High Sherrif of Flinkshire 1837, he died 1841.
