A French gilt-brass and porcelain-mounted striking carriage clock in the rococo style
Drocourt, No.14555. Circa 1870
The two-colour gilt case cast in the rococo manner with flower and vine-draped putto caryatids reclining on elaborate volutes to each angle, the side panels in the Sèvres manner delicately painted on one side with a courting couple resplendant in period dress and on the other with a man and woman dancing, both within jewelled gilt foliate borders and blue frames and with a small oval vignette below painted with a country cottage, the top set with a further porcelain panel painted with a courting couple, the porcelain dial with Roman chapter ring with blued spade hands, the scene painted below with a gentleman playing music to his paramour within a rustic landscape in a gilt and jewelled frame, the twin barrel movement with platform lever escapement, strike on a gong on the back plate with the maker's stamp for Drocourt and numbered 14555
