The case on a silver turn-table base cast with a watery design, the case with bevelled glass to the five sides and with sliding rear door, the dial signed Thomas Mercer above the Roman chapter ring with subsidiary seconds at XII, up-and-down sector above VI, blued spade hands, the gilt-brass movement with thick rectangular spot-finished plates secured by four double-screwed pillars, chain fusee with maintaining power, the escapement platform numbered 1236 with Earnshaw-type spring detent, steel helical spring, cut bimetallic compensated balance with stop/start lever, the back plate signed Thomas Mercer St. Albans, No. 1197 & No. 1/30; with original black leather and red velvet-lined travelling case and with original silvered winding key; the case with hallmarks for London, 1974
