A German ebony and gilt-metal mounted striking crucifix clock
Second quarter 17th Century
The case of typical form with the figures of Mary and St. John at the foot of the ebony cross, secured in a gilt-metal socket and applied with the Corpus Christi surmounted by a revolving gilt-metal sphere with a silvered Arabic chapter ring and with gilt-metal pointer secured below, the moulded ebony base applied to the front with a winged cherub mount providing the securing piece for the latch on the hinged iron base plate, resting on four gilt-metal bun feet and housing the square section bell, the movement with circular iron plates, going barrel for the going train (now largely lacking), further going barrel for the strike train (lacking the hammer); with restorations and parts lacking
