A SILVER BUTTER DISH, COVER AND LINER WITH BUTTER KNIFE
Mark of Wood & Hughes, New York, circa 1860
The circular dish raised on four feet cast with scrolls and flowerheads, the two openwork handles with female mask joins, the dish fitted with circular pierced liner, the domed cover chased with two oval reserves enclosed in flowers and strapwork, one side engraved with monogram J.C., surmounted by a cow-form finial, the butter spoon Medallion pattern, with bust of Diana, the blade engraved with strapwork, the reverse of handle engraved with similar monogram, marked under base and on knife blade
