Lot Essay

James Mundy has kindly confirmed the attribution of this drawing on the basis of a photograph in a communication dated 23 October 2002. He dates the drawing to the mid 1570s while the artist was working in Florence and states that 'the sitter appears to be one of his associates with whom he went sketching in Vallombrosa'. Two similar drawings of his associates are in the Louvre (C. Acidini Luchinat, Taddeo e Federico Zuccari, Rome, 1999, p. 86, fig. 38 and p. 102, fig. 76).
