8o (185 x 103 mm). Three section titles for tables of logarithms, proportional parts and artificial sines. Engraved frontispiece portrait by F.H. van Houe and eight folding plates. Contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt (a bit rubbed). Provenance: H. Crow (signature on recto of frontispiece and title); William Fames Canter (signature dated 1910 on front pastedown).

FIRST EDITION. Among the "Geographical Descriptions" is a section on America, "the fourth part of the world... When the Spanish had entred on America they found the people without Apparel, and their Bread was made from the Jucca-Root, whose juice is a strong poyson: but it being squeezed out and dried it makes bread. They worshiped Devillish Spirits..." (pp.169-180). Other sections are included on astronomy, navigation, surveying and gunnery. Wing T-534.
