A Lacquer Writing Box (Suzuribako) and Document Box (Bunko)
(20th century)
The small rectangular writing box with rounded corners and with cut-aways on the longer sides, decorated on the cover with chrysanthemums and bamboo in gold and silver lacquer in low relief on a roiro ground, the underside of the cover decorated with scattered plum blossoms raised in low-relief gold lacquer, the removable inner tray decorated with a continuation of the scattered blossoms and fitted with a small circular silver water dropper set into a two-tier saucer of silver and gilt-metal, the rectangular inkstone lacquered fundame on the top edges, the area below the tray and the outside of the box undecorated, the rims fundame

Document box 12¾ x 9½ x 3½in. (32.3 x 24.1 x 8.8cm.)
Each with wood storage box, one inscribed on the outside of the cover Kiku take maki-e suzuribako (Writing box with chrysanthemum and bamboo design), the other inscribed Kiku take maki-e bunko (Document box with chrysanthemum and bamboo design) and signed on the underside of the cover Heian Yokodo zo (Made by Mikami Yokodo) and sealed Heian Mikami and Yokodo (2)
