A FRENCH HUNTING SWORD OF EXHIBITION TYPE
Mid-19th Century
Fitted with an earlier German double-edged blade etched at the forte with crowned double-headed eagles and dated 1718 on one side, and cast brass hilt decorated with a standing figure of a huntsman sounding his horn and carrying a sword (blade incomplete), with hounds and dead game at his feet, the quillon block with central vacant escutcheon with coronet above, in leather-covered scabbard with elaborately cast brass mounts decorated with scenes of the chase and sporting accoutrements
