Silver-plated skull mounted with oakleaf ornaments and embossed crest (bearing the company motto), helmet-plate bearing cross with fleurs-de-lys finials and flames, original side bosses with replacement chinscales and chinscale-backing, black hair tuft and mane (shortened, and lacking the small central gilt wire plait), leather peak-lining and interior headband

Lot Essay

The Mousquetaires, originally formed in the reign of Louis XIII, were re-established in 1814. Dissolved during the "Hundred Days", they were reinstated after Waterloo, but finally disbanded in 1816.
