A HAT IN THE STYLE OF FRENCH REVOLUTIONARY CAVALRY, AND A COAT OF LATER STYLE
Late 19th Century, composite
The hat of coarse black felt with tricoleur cockade beneath loop braid (now faded to a pink shade), secured by a metal button inscribed REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE, and with the revolutionary emblems, tapering red worsted pompon (some damage and repairs, lining missing); together with a coatee in the style of the Garde Nationale of the Restoration period, of blue cloth, with scarlet collar and cuffs, white cloth piping and lapels, white serge lining, and yellow epaulettes of later pattern
