AN OFFICER'S HELMET OF THE (BRITISH) 3RD DRAGOON GUARDS, 1847 PATTERN
Helmet circa 1847-71
A Victorian "Albert" pattern helmet, in gilt metal with gilt metal fittings, including large helmet-plate bearing a hobnail star in white metal, the gilt oval centre inscribed with regimental title and VR cypher, chin-chain secured by rose bosses (lining defective, chin-chain sheared, helmet-plate lacking part of wreath), the helmet now drilled for adaptation and mounted as a table-lamp on a gilt Corinthian column candlestick on a black plinth bearing a Victorian officer's helmet-plate of the Prince of Wales's Own West Yorkshire Regiment (plate flattened and rays of star pierced for mounting); together with a black drooping horsehair plume with rose finial (defective) (2)
