A TROOPER'S OR N.C.O'S HELMET OF THE SAXON GARDE-REITER REGIMENT WITH PARADE-LION, 1907 MODEL Circa 1910
Skull of tombak, with white metal edging and fittings including the lion crest (supporting a shield with gilt crowned cypher) and helmet plate star (in gilt with crowned Saxon shield), brass chinscales, national and Saxon cockades of superior quality, and interior headband of leather, the front peak stamped (?) 99 G.R.4.10 1 and 53, the lion stamped 1112 in left hind foot

Lot Essay
The lion crest was introduced in 1907, and was retrofitted to existing helmets. Thereafter, new helmets were produced complete with lions whose serial-numbers matched those of the helmets.
