QIANLONG RELIEF MOULDED SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)

The shallow flat-bottom bowl raised on a tall flared stem foot, the high domed cover surmounted by a finial simulating a pair of rope-twist handles, decorated in relief with archaistic motifs including overlapping lappets and 'C' curls, the lustrous glaze of vibrant indigo-blue tone

Medley noted that in the Winter Solstice sacrifice to Heaven in 1748, blue porcelain vessels were used for the first time as stipulated by Emperor Qianlong, ibid, p. 100.
