Enamelled and gilt to the centre with a coat-of-arms surmounted by a coronet and flanked by two recumbent lions on a grassy mound, encircled at the well by a spearhead-pattern band, the flat rim decorated en grisaille and gilt with five Louis XV-style rocaille scrolls, one with a crack, two with minute rim chips

Lot Essay

The arms are possibly those of Mr Cornelis van Maanen (1708-1743), the notary and Attorney-General of the Council of the Prince of Orange and Parliament, and must have been ordered shortly before his death.
