A SEVRES SILVER-GILT MOUNTED EWER AND BASIN (POT 'A L'EAU TOURNE' ET JATTE 'OVALE', 2EME GRANDEUR)
Circa 1762, blue interlaced L's and painters mark for Viellard to both, the stand incised JJ, the mount with illegible charge mark, possibly for Jean-Jacques Prévost, 1762-1768
Painted in a muted palette with attributes of gardening, agriculture, bee keeping and other rural pastoral pursuits reserved on the white ground within gilt ciselé bands and linked within a gilt berried myrtle garland
6in. (15.2cm.) high, the ewer and cover; 10in. (25.4cm.) long, the basin (2)

Lot Essay

André-Vincent Viellard pére, recorded at Sèvres as a painter 1752-1790, is known for landscapes painted in the soft earth tones found on the present ewer and basin and on an unmarked ecuelle, cover and stand from the Estates of David M. Daniels and Stevan Beck Baloga, sold Christie's New York, 18 October 2002, lot 401. Indeed, some of the same scenes appear on both pieces.
