A rare Steiff Humpty Dumpty
of cream felt with boot button eyes, airbrushed features, jointed blue felt legs and red felt arms, brown felt shoes and hat and 'Regstd. 479441 - Made in Germany' printed on left sole of foot --11½in. (29cm.) high, circa 1910 (large repaired hole to back and legs, other moth damage and slight fading)

Provenance
This Humpty was the childhood toy of Merle Whitehead, who was born on the 14th. November 1909 and died on the 7th December 2000. She lived all her life in Lower Kingswood, Surrey.

Lot Essay

Steiff first produced this toy from 1906 until the late 1920s. Steiff could not call their toy Humpty Dumpty as it was copyrighted. They advertised this item as a 'Man from Mars'.
