A pair of gold and lacquer shibayama-style vases
19th Century
of flattened oval form, with inset panels depicting cranes before a meandering stream amongst bamboo, the reverse with oni carrying a massive bell, the other vase showing a warrior slaying an oni, all within lacquer bands smulating wood and panels of diaper and geometric patterns -- 9½in. (24cm.) high, (some losses to inlay).
