A Continental silver-mounted gilt-bronze sander and inkpot
The gilt bronze circa 1580, probably German, the mounts probably Italian, dated 1698
Cylindrical and with moulded silver borders, the gilt-bronze sides cast and chased with strapwork, foliage, demi-satyr herms, birds and two seated female figures, with two oval cartouches enclosing a mortar with two pestles, the sander with pierced top and baluster finial, each engraved beneath the base with coat-of-arms and partly legible Latin inscription
