FIRST EDITION IN FRENCH, FIRST ISSUE with the editor's letter "Au citoyen Karl Marx" on verso of Marx's letter. The French edition was substantially revised by Marx himself and described by him to have an "valeur scientifique indépendante de l'original" ("Avis au lecteur", p. 348). The English edition of 1887, edited by Friedrich Engels and published four years after Marx's death, was based on the French edition. PMM 359 note; Rubel 634.
