Lot Essay

This scene is very similar to an engraving after James Seymour by J. Roberts, entitled 'Going Out in the Morning', which was published in circa 1780. See Howard and Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, vol. I, p. 282, fig. 280a where the engraving is reproduced.
