Lot Essay

It is quite rare to find a jade dish of this type incised with a reign mark. A larger example in spinach jade, also with a Qianlong mark, is illustrated in Nott, Chinese Jade Through the Ages, Tokyo, 1962, col. pl. CXXIV. A smaller Jiaqing example was sold in our Hong Kong Rooms, 30 October 2000, lot 654; another Jiaqing example was sold in London, 8 December 1993, lot 215

For an example of a similarly incised reign mark see a pair of jade candelabra in the Palace Museum, illustrated in Zhongguo Yuqi Quanji 6: Qing, Hebei, 1991, col.96 and 97, p.63
