A PAIR OF PLAINS BEADED HIDE LEGGINGS
of usual construction, each painted with a series of black horizontal bands over pale yellow and red ochre, and overlaid with a verticle strip of buffalo hide, sinew sewn and lane stitched in pumpkin, black, white-heart red, and two shades of blue beads, with a series of four checkered triangles, the outer edges with long fringe wrapped with red wool and dyed yellow porcupine quills, short fringe along the top and bottom edges
Lengths: 41 in. (104.2 cm.) each, excluding ties
Provenance
Reportedly collected by an Indian agent (and honorary chief) serving among the Blackfeet in Alberta, Canada. Descended through the family and gifted to the present owner.
