Lot Essay

According to David Peters, Decorator and Date Marks on 18th Century Vincennes and Sevres Porcelain (London, 1997), p. 87, the painter's lozenge mark was attributed to Tabary in a 19th Century publication, but there is currently no evidence to support this attribution. The date of this piece would appear to support Mr Peters's view as Tabary was a painter of birds at Sèvres in 1751, 1754 and 1755.
