TWO HUNTING HANGERS
The first English, the second German, the first composite, the second early 19th Century
The first with straight single-edged fullered blade double-edged at the point, etched with pig-sticking and stag-hunting scenes, foliated strapwork, the Prince of Wales's feathers and the supplier's name, 'Meyers Mortimer, Conduit St., London', the silver-mounted hilt comprising short recurved animal-hoof shaped quillons, downturned scallop-shaped shell, cap-pommel set with a cairngorm, and natural staghorn grip with applied oval silver plate bearing the Prince of Wales's feathers in relief, in silver scabbard with two suspension-rings and a frog-stud bearing the Prince of Wales's feathers; the second with straight hollow-gound single-edged blade double-edged towards the point, the forte etched and gilt with various devices, including a sun and a stag, all against a blued ground, the gilt-brass hilt comprising narrow pelta-shaped shell cast in relief with a couchant stag, short animal-hoof shaped near quillon, slender knuckle-guard, and knife-handle shaped grip with ivory scales secured by domed fluted rivets, in original wooden leather-covered scabbard with gilt-brass locket and later chape, and wide pocket for an ivory-handled by-knife (associated)
