A GEORGIAN SABRE, PROBABLY FOR A LIGHT COMPANY OFFICER

With plain slightly curved flat-sided blade, double-edged for the last 8in. (stained, with traces of pitting), gilt-brass stirrup hilt with plain knucklebow guard, langets and quillon, backstrap with integral pommel and wire-bound ivory grip (chipped at pommel), in its black leather scabbard with gilt mounts, the locket bearing a ring and frog-stud, and inscribed 'R. Johnston late Bland & Foster, Sword Cutler & Belt Maker to his Majesty, 68 St. James's Strt., London' (small split in metal of locket), chape decorated en suite with locket, the middle band a replacement of plainer style
