AN OFFICER'S MAMELUKE SWORD
Circa 1816-25
With wide curved fullered blade, the surface counterfeit damascened, with traces of gilt decoration (blade now pitted and with nicks to edge), plain gilt-brass crosspiece with a foliate emblem engraved in the écusson, and fine ivory grips, in a leather scabbard (possibly not original) with gilt-brass mounts, the ring-bands cast with device as for Lancer officers' scabbards, plain chape with band of engraved decoration round the top (the mounts all badly fitting)
