A FRENCH SWORD IN THE STYLE OF A GENERAL OFFICER'S 'SABRE DE RECOMPENSE'
Late 19th Century
With curved fullered blade, blued and gilt for approximately half its length, decorated with trophy, sunburst etc, gilt hilt in Garde à la Marengo style, with chequered wooden grip (cracked), and curved pommel with cast decoration (loose) attached to the quillon by two small chains (one broken), in a gilt scabbard with chased decoration and massive ring-bands bearing trophies in bas relief, separated by a panel engraved with a crowned 'N' (possibly lacking a small ornament)
