Lot Essay

The cwpwrdd tridarn is peculiar to North Wales, although in many instances the third open tier was an addition of the eighteenth century, as in this lot, as the need or desire for display increased.
A tridarn with very similar bands of chequer inlay , but a different form of the intertwining Celtic motif, is illustrated in Alun Davies The Welsh Dresser and Associated Cupboards, Cardiff 1991, page 18, figure 11.
