Lot Essay

This overmantel mirror can be attributed to the Dublin firm of Francis and John Booker of Essex Bridge, the sons of John Booker Snr, who are recorded as working together between 1761 and 1773. The same distinctive rockwork and arches appear on an oval pier glass with their rococo label at Glin Castle, Co. Limerick and on a rectangular pier glass also with their label that belonged to Ms Honora Miles, Ramelton, Co. Donegal (The Knight of Glin, 'Dublin Directories and Trade Labels', Furniture History, 1985, pp. 261-262).
