Gechter reproduced this work numerous times under different titles, among them the Death of D'Ailly at D'Ivry and the Death of Trancred at Sicily, the latter of which he exhibited in Paris in the Salon of 1837. This example depicts the death of Harold at the Battle of Hastings (1066) where his mistress Edith fell upon him after recognizing his body among the dead.
