Lot Essay

Sculptor and médailleur, Alexis-Joseph Depaulis (d. 1867) entered the École des Beaux-Arts in 1813, studying under Adrien and de Cartirer. He exhibited at the Salon from 1815 to 1855, and was made a chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 1834. Another marble médaillon of Louis-Philippe by Depaulis is in the collection of the Musée de Chartres.
