A MOMONARI KABUTO [PEACH-SHAPED HELMET]
The bowl signed Kashu ju Kigoshi Naofuru, Edo Period (18th Century)
The fine russet iron bowl made in four pieces and crested with a deep medial ridge, a dragon applied to both sides of the bowl in gold and silver nunome [overlay], the tosei mabisashi [concave peak] applied with an oni [demon] and a nawa fukurin [roped border] in iron repeated on the fukigaeshi [earpieces] with an unidentified mon [crest] in iron, a hineno jikoro [close fitting neck guard] of black lacquered iron, the lower plate covered in brown lacquered leather and laced in blue sugake odoshi [spaced lacing]

Kigoshi Naofuru is a relatively unknown smith whose work closely follows the style of the Kaga workers. It is thought he might be a pupil of Unkai Mitsuhisa.
