A ROTTERDAM DOCUMENTARY BLUE AND WHITE TILE PICTURE
Circa 1740, De Bloempot workshop
Painted by Aalmis after engravings by Frederick de Moucheron with trees flanking an extensive formal garden with figures promenading before a pool surrounded by pleached trees and cut hedges, the foreground with a further shaped pool flanked by two classical statues on plinths, the base of one inscribed I.Aalmis.Pinxit a Rotterdam, the pool with swans and other fowl about a central fountain with Neptune and Tritons blowing on conch shells, a barge nearby (majority of tiles broken through and restored), attached to a modern rectangular wood mount
Height overall: 51¾ in. (131.5 cm.); width overall: 41½ in. (105.5 cm.)
