An English bronze mortar
Probably early 17th century
The body with two loop handles and two angular handles, the loops with wrought iron suspension rings, the body cast with a swastika scratch mark
6in. (15.2cm.) diameter; 4 5/16in. (10.9cm.) high

Lot Essay

The swastika scratch mark on this mortar is similar to one used on a mortar with similar handles, along with other marks, sold in the John Fardon collection, in these rooms 1 May, 1996, lot 234.
