Lot Essay

Built and engined by Messrs. Thornycroft at Chiswick, the torpedo boat destroyer H.M.S. Daring was launched in November 1893 and formed one of the Portsmouth Flotilla for the instruction of officers and men under the command of Lieutenant Henry Thompson. With a displacement of 220 tons, length of 185 feet and beam of 19 feet, Daring could reach a maximum speed of 28.6 knots. In 1912 she was sold for £1,600 as scrap.
