A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX
by François Joanin, marked, Geneva, circa 1800, with prestige marks, the flange struck with inventory no. 6190
Octagonal flattened box, the cover, four long sides and base decorated with white taille d'épargne enamelled arches and strapwork on burnished gold panels and with engraved stylized feathers, the lid centred by a rectangular engine-turned reserve enamelled en plein in translucent royal blue on a guilloché sunburst ground and painted with Cupid, two ladies in classical dresses and a child holding an apple, white bordered foliage cut corners, bright-cut rims with very slightly everted incorporated thumbpiece
