A SWISS ENAMELLED SILVER-GILT SINGING-BIRD BOX
by Jacques Bruguier (1801-1871), the movement scratched in 'Bruguier Jacques Genève' and numbered '41', Geneva, circa 1840/1860
Rectangular box with waisted lobed corners, the cover applied with flowers cast in silver-gilt on a dark blue enamelled taille d'épargne foliate ground surrounded by scrolls, a slide on the front side opening the hinged oval flap enamelled with a mountainous landscape view, the colourfully plumed bird formerly rotating on its axis, flapping its wings, turning its head and opening its beak, the sides engraved with feathery scrolls, flowers and foliage, the base similarly engraved and enclosing a blank floral reserve, with rear key compartment; the leather case with key compartment, the white plush and silk lined inside gold-stamped 'L. GALLOPIN & CIE SUCCUR DE HENRY CAPT GENEVE'.
