HAMILTON, Alexander. Autograph letter signed ("A Hamilton") as Secretary of the Treasury, to Robert Troup Esq., Philadelphia, 30 June 1792. 1 page, 4to.
The Secretary of the Treasury settles accounts: "I think, I sometime since, requested you to settle my account with Judge Hobart. In turning over my papers, I find the inclosed, which I send you, in order that you may have the goodness, if any thing remains due, to discharge it." Robert Troup (1757-1832), a New York attorney and judge who handled certain business affairs for Hamilton, attended Columbia (Kings) College, served in the Continental Army and from 1786 in the New York legislature. A friend and supporter of Hamilton, Troupe later reported to his friend the behind-the-scenes political manipulations of Aaron Burr which culminated in the celebrated duel in which Hamilton was killed.
