8o. Advertisements at beginning and end. Original morocco-backed yellow printed boards, advertisements on pastedowns (a bit rubbed).

FIRST EDITION. As in Graff, the advertisements begin on p. iii: "Pages [i-ii] may be missing, although page [iii] bears a signature 1; possibly the publisher counted the front cover as pages [i-ii]" (Graff). The text provides a detailed list of residents, as well as explanatory text relating to the various areas. A historical sketch of Grass Valley opens the text: "Grass Valley, the wealthiest, most prosperous and most extensively known of the interior towns of California..." Graff 531.
