Portrait frontispiece, 30 woodcut plates on India paper, mounted, reproduced from the original blocks cut for the 1866 edition, and 6 photogravure plates reproducing original drawings. Putnam's Sons' preserving original limp vellum, front cover with double panel and central lozenge filled with pointillé work, lower cover with double panel only, spine gilt with raised bands, gilt turn-ins, green silk doublures, gilt edges (spine faded, original vellum bowed), later morocco-backed green cloth case.

These show houses and rural scenes associated with Tennyson, six with captions by the artist, including the poet's birthplace at Somersby Rectory, Lincolnshire, Clevedon Court, burial place of Arthur Hallam, and the Tennyson's home at Aldworth, Surrey. The designs may owe their inspiration to Helen Allingham's Homes and Haunts of Tennyson (1905).
